Are theists or atheist more likely to commit suicide, statistically speaking?

I do not know any figures on the matter, but in my personal experience (which includes living in 2002's teen suicide capital of the USA) religious people tend to commit suicide at a higher rate. I would venture that this has something to do with the thought of eternal and everlasting life in the afterlife. I talked with one person (a close friend) that had attempted suicide and asked him why he tried to kill himself. He explained that failures in his life were a part of god's plan and he was tired of god casting him as the failure.
